Where are international library jobs posted?

Many international jobs don't get advertised anywhere other than the University's web site or the local daily newspaper – don't expect 90% of available foreign jobs to show up on ALA's joblist!

If you want an international library job, here's where to start looking:
  • Subscribe to the  IFLA listserv called LibJobs by clicking here. List is fairly low traffic, and about 1/3 of the posts are US jobs, 2/3 everywhere else in the world.
  • Set up an RSS alert at USAjobs.gov for the librarian position for American jobs at foreign locations (army bases, etc.)
  • Set up an RSS alert at International Organization careers (https://iocareers.state.gov/Main/Home), which does have a field for Library Science and lists positions for the United Nations and other international organizations.
  • If you know of a foreign library that seems to have posted positions in the past, "stalking" their website every few weeks might alert you to positions that aren't posted to the usual places. Having multiple expat employees with 3 year contracts means a position might be opening sooner than you think.
  • And finally, networking. Many people currently in international jobs have worked in other foreign libraries- poke around LinkedIn or ask colleagues or library school classmates if they know a librarian working abroad. Even if there are no openings at their library, they might know of openings in their region that aren't widely posted.
